Uses of Metals
1. Identify the properties of metals that makes them useful for the following applications. The
first one has been done for you.

Jewellery Metals are malleable and have a shiny lustre.
Electrical wires

Stove-top elements
Artistic sculptures
Concrete reinforcing
2. Use the information from the data boxes below to identify which metal would be suitable for
the applications shown below.
Tungsten can withstand
very high temperatures
and glows white hot.
Titanium is strong and does
not corrode. It does not
cause allergies in humans.
Chromium has a high lustre
and resists corrosion.
Lead is soft, flexible and
very dense. It does not rust
or corrode easily and is
relatively cheap.
Aluminium is relatively light
but is very strong.
Copper is very flexible, is
an excellent conductor of
heat and electricity and is
very ductile.
