The fully aligned Year 9 sciPAD is here!

The fully aligned Year 9 sciPAD is here!

After some of the most hectic, sleep deprived weeks we’ve had here at sciPAD HQ, we’re very excited to share something important with you!

A draft version of the new 2027 Year 9 sciPAD is now ready, fully aligned to the finalised 2027 Science Curriculum.

We know that teachers and Science Departments need resources in their hands now so you can start planning for 2027 with confidence.

That’s why Team sciPAD has been working incredibly hard over the past few weeks to get this ready for you as quickly as possible.

There have been plenty of late nights, strong coffees and very full whiteboards, but we think it has been worth it.

The new Year 9 sciPAD has been carefully developed around the final curriculum, giving you a practical, ready-to-use resource to support your teaching from day one in 2027.

It will help you:

  • Plan your Year 9 programme around the finalised curriculum.
  • Save time creating and sourcing classroom resources. Give students clear, structured learning activities.
  • Build scientific literacy, thinking and understanding.
  • Move into 2027 knowing a big part of your resource planning is already sorted.

We’re calling this a draft version because we still want to give it one final polish before the finished books go to print. But we also know there’s no point keeping it hidden away at sciPAD HQ while teachers are busy planning courses, programmes and budgets for next year.

What about sciPAD Online?

Alongside the new Year 9 workbook, we’ve also been busy updating sciPAD Online so the digital content fully supports the new 2027 programme.

sciPAD is built around a workbook first philosophy. This reflects a growing body of research, including studies discussed here, suggesting that handwriting, note taking and working through ideas on paper play an important role in student understanding, processing and retention.

At the same time, we know digital learning can offer experiences that simply are not possible on the printed page. Videos, animations, interactive activities, instant feedback quizzes and other engaging tools can help students visualise difficult concepts, check their understanding and reinforce what they have learned.

That’s the role of sciPAD Online. We’ve completely updated the online platform and content to complement and reinforce the new workbooks, giving teachers extra tools they can draw on to add genuine value to the learning.

The workbook remains the core resource. You don’t need sciPAD Online to get the full value from it, but the new online content provides another useful layer of support when digital experiences can do something print cannot.
