SCIPAD - BIG IDEAS - BOOK 2
CIRCUITS AND MAGNETS
Conductors and Insulators
Conductors are materials that let electricity move through them easily. All metals conduct
electricity, as does graphite. An insulator is a material that does not allow electricity to flow through
it. Non-metals are insulators, and so are materials made of non-metals such as wood or plastic.
1. Outline the difference between a conductor and an insulator.

2. Design a circuit that you could use to test for electrical conductivity. You need to draw the
circuit diagram below. Once your teacher has approved your circuit, construct it and test
ten items for electrical conductivity.

3. List the items you tested and indicate whether they are a conductor or insulator by placing
a tick in the appropriate column.
